He enlisted at the Company’s formation and shows up shortly after as being sick in Hot Springs, VA in September and October of 1861. He rejoined the company and appears as present on every roster until he deserted on March 11, 1863 at Shelbyville, TN. One post war roster states he joined the Cavalry and there are several William H. Wells’ that joined Tennessee Cavalry Units but nothing to distinguish them as being this particular one. By the 1870 Census, his father had moved to Decatur, AL and William is shown as living in the house with them. After this census he disappears. Another post war roster states he died in Atlanta but no trace of him has been found there.
