DOB:  ? DOD:  ? Age at Enlistment: ? Date of Enlistment:  November 15, 1862 Place of Enlistment:  Tullahoma, TN Rank at Enlistment:  Private Rank at Discharge:  Private Casualty:  James was captured at the Battle of Nashville on December 16, 1864. Comments:  According to his service record, James was made a musician almost immediately after enlisting.  On one roster he is listed as being part of the Williamson Grays.  Most likely he was slated to be a soldier in Company D but his musical abilities allowed him to join the band.  Many members of the regimental band were captured at the Battle of Nashville, and James was included in that number.  He took the Oath of Allegiance a few day later on December 22, 1864.  This oath papers describe him as Complexion: Dark; Hair: Black; Eyes: Black; Height: 5’10”; Residence: Williamson County.  Before and after the war there is no trace of James anywhere.  There was a James C. Wells that lived in the county but he served in the 20th Tennessee Infantry.
