Comments: John appears on the 1850 Census living in District 6 of Williamson County (Temple Hills area). He enlisted at the
company’s formation and was present on every roster. He was promoted to 1st Corporal at the Company’s reorganization on April
30, 1862 at Corinth, MS. He was mortally wounded in the bowels at Perryville on October 8 and lingered for a few weeks before
passing away. The Confederates record his death as October 24, 1862 but the Federals record November 13, 1862 It is hard to say
who is right. If he died on October 24 he would have had others from his regiment with him but Federal surgeons would have been
taking care of him, so their date of November 13 maybe correct. John was mistakenly entered on a list of prisoners to be exchanged
in January 1863 even though he would have been dead for over a month at that point. The Federals record he died at a field
hospital in Perryville and it is assumed he is buried in the Confederate mass grave there.
