He enlisted in the company at their formation shows present on every roster. He was wounded twice at the Battle of Perryville but managed to avoid being captured in Harrodsburg like most of the 1st Tennessee wounded. Thomas transferred to the 11th Tennessee Cavalry Compay I on November 6, 1864. No record of whether or not he finished out the war with them. Following the war he married Martha Meredith on March 6, 1869 and the couple had at least two children. Thomas resumed his career as a stone cutter. In the 1870 Census he is living in District 5 (the area just south of Franklin) but by the 1880 Census his wife has died and he is living with his parents in Franklin again. Thomas passed away in 1883 and is buried in the old city cemetery in Franklin.
