He enlisted at the company’s formation and several post war rosters state he was originally 2nd Sergeant of the Company. The first roster on his service record dated August 31, 1861 states he is a Private. If he was a Sergeant the assignment did not last very long. Robert served a year in the regiment and was discharged on April 27, 1862 at Corinth, MS for disability. It appears he did not serve again after his discharge. Following the war Robert remained a Bachelor. The 1870 Census shows him living at his family’s farm, between modern day roads of Old Hickory Blvd and Harding Place, in District 8 of Davidson County directly north of Brentwood. The Census shows he is working as a Store Keeper. The 1880 Census does not list an occupation but does list him as a boarder in the home. His death certificate lists his occupation as farmer. He was a member of the Frank Cheatham Bivouac of the United Confederate Veterans and his name appears on the Confederate Monument in Centennial Park in Nashville. Robert died in 1914 and his buried at the Edminston-Perkins-Scales Cemetery in Brentwood.
