Comments: Ashley was the youngest of children born to his father's second wife. His older brother, Ruford, was in Company C
(Rock City Guards) of the 1st Tennessee. His father, Ashley B. Rozzell Sr, was quite wealthy and owned land in West Tennessee,
Texas, and Arkansas. Ashely was living in Wilson County on the 1850 Census and in Davidson County on the 1860 Census.
Ashley is listed as being in the Hospital in Bath Springs, VA in September and October 1861. He was promoted to Color Corporal in
January 1863. After Missionary Ridge he was part of the group of 1st Tennessee soldiers that stole horses and left to join Forrest's
Cavalry. Enlisted in 18th Tennessee Cavalry (later called the 19th) Company F. When his unit was about to surrender at the end of
the war he went home instead of surrendering.
Afterwards he married Emma Sangster or Langster and had nine children according to most sources. On the 1880 Census he is
listed as living in Friar Point, MS but the move must have been temporary because all his children were listed as being born in
Tennessee. He inherited his father's home Mountview in 1886 that still stands in Brentwood on Franklin Road. He lived out the rest
of his days there. He was a farmer for most of his life. He is buried in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Section 15 Lot 2.

Ashley’s tombstone at Mount Olivet Cemetery. His name is spelled Rozzelle on the tombstone. Unsure which spelling is correct.
Ashley is probably pictured here in front of his house at Mountview. There is no date on the photo so this could be when his
father owned the house. The man in the center is either Ashley or his father.
