Comments: Robert was born in raised in District 5 of Williamson County, near the area referred to as West Harpeth. He appears
twice in the 1860 Census, once living with his family in West Harpeth and the other living with C.A. Bailey in the town of Franklin
working as a Clerk. Robert enlisted at the Company’s formation but he first appears as sick on a company roster dated September
and October 1861. The sickness never left him and he was discharged at Hot Springs, VA on December 5, 1861. On his United
Confederate Veterans Application he states he tried to enlist with the 2nd Tennessee Cavalry but was rejected as being unfit for duty.
Robert married Eliza Crouch on February 27, 1868 and the couple had 10 children. By 1870, he had moved back to District 5 and
was running a cotton gin and mill on the west side of the railroad tracks on modern day West Harpeth Road. He was a member of
the United Confederate Veterans in the McEwen Bivouac. Robert passed away in 1896 and is buried in Section D of Mount Hope
Cemetery in Franklin.
