DOB: About 1841DOD: ?Age at Enlistment: About 20Date of Enlistment: May 9, 1861Place of Enlistment: Franklin, TNRank at Enlistment: PrivateRank at Discharge: Quartermaster Sergeant (42nd Mississippi)Casualty: NoneComments: Thomas Harris enlisted in the 1st Tennessee and served with them until June 1862, when he transferred to the 42nd Mississippi Infantry and served as their Quartermaster Sergeant. The 42nd Mississippi formed near where the 1st Tennessee was encamped at the time, but unsure how Thomas managed to get attached to them. Outside of his military service, no record of him has been found. He does not show up on the 1860 Census for Williamson or Davidson County. His service record with the 42nd Mississippi states he was 21 when he enlisted with them, which would put his date of birth around 1841. Despite forming near Bragg’s army, the 42nd Mississippi was transported to Virginia. They were on garrison duty around Richmond until 1863 where they began actively campaigning with General Lee. They fought at the Battle of Gettysburg and continued serving until Lee surrendered at Appomattox in April 1865. No record of Thomas following the Civil War has been found.
