His mother was the daughter of a physician in Williamson County and his father was a Methodist Preacher. William was born and raised in Davidson County (Nashville). He graduated from the Southern Commercial College in Nashville and was working for M.A. Parrish Produce Company as a bookkeeper with Thomas Anthony of the Williamson Grays when the war broke out. William left for Franklin to join his older brother’s company. In August he was listed as sick at Hot Springs, VA and in September and October he was listed as sick at Lewisburg, VA. He died of disease there on Nov. 5, 1861.
