Comments: He was born in Ireland in 1810 and believed to be the only foreign born soldier in the company. He moved to America in
1822, leaving Dublin and arriving in New York City on September 3, 1822. He moved to Tennessee in 1832 and the Williamson
County Court granted him U.S. Citizenship in 1839. Thomas married Maria Henderson in Williamson County on September 16, 1834
and the couple had two children, Maria died in 1842. By 1850 he had remarried a girl named Lucy. Thomas owned a farm just east
of Franklin along the Harpeth River on the road to Murfreesboro. He was discharged at Camp Cheatham on July 8, 1861. According
to a Review and Journal article from June 21, 1883: "Thomas Handy and John E. Thweatt left the company and returned home, they
both being over the age required for soldiers, and too feeble to undergo the campaign before us." Thomas lived out the rest of his
days on his farm on Murfreesboro Road and also ran a saloon based on a 1876 business directory. He sold a small piece of his farm
to Jacob Kridler, of the Williamson Grays, to build a house on in the 1870’s. Based on his probate file, Thomas died in 1882.
