Comments: James grew up in District 16 in the North Eastern corner of Williamson County, on what is now called Edmondson Pike.
James married Sallie Driver on February 24, 1861, just a few months before enlisting. He was the brother of Samuel Edmondson
and also first cousins with the three Winstead brothers (who also served in the Williamson Grays) through his mother. He was
promoted to 3rd Corporal on January 1, 1864. He was sent to Ocmuglee Hospital in Macon, GA after being wounded at Kennesaw
Mountain. His arm was amputated at the joint and he was declared disabled after amputation. James moved to the invalid corps on
September 3, 1864. His service record states his P.O. is Montgomery. Unsure if that is where he was stationed while in the Invalid
Corps. Following the war he had three children and continued farming in District 16 until the 1880’s. He first appears in the Nashville
City Directory in 1882 working as a clerk and living on 23 College Street in Nashville. In the 1900’s he moved to 601 Shelby Ave in
Nashville. On the 1900 Census he states he is a Grocer. By the 1920 census he was no longer working. He died of aortic
regurgitation in 1922 and is buried at Spring Hill Cemetery in Nashville.
