Comments: The 1850 and 1860 Census shows William living in the 9th District or the suburbs of Franklin. In 1860, he is working as
a clerk at the hotel run by his Uncle Dederick Crutcher. William enlisted at the Company’s formation and served only one month
before being discharged at Camp Cheatham in June 1861 for disability. He reenlisted on October 10, 1862 at Murfreesboro in
Company I of the 11th Tennessee Cavalry. He started was a 5th Sergeant but was demoted down to Private within a few months of
enlisting. One roster states he had no horse from January to June of 1864. He surrendered with the regiment in Alabama in May
1865. On May 1, 1872, he married Eliza B. Marshall and the couple had at least two children. The 1870 Census shows him working
as a clerk in the 14th District of Williamson County (between Franklin and Arrington). After marrying, it appears he spent the rest of
his life in the same area as a farmer based on census records. He is buried in Section B of Mount Hope Cemetery in Franklin, TN.
