Comments: The 1850 Census shows his family living on a farm in District 5 of Williamson County (west of Franklin). By 1860, his
family had moved to downtown Franklin where William is listed as working as a trader. He enlisted in the Williamson Grays at their
formation but was detached to the commissary in June 1862 and never returned to the company. He surrendered with the
commissary department at Greensboro, N.C. on April 26, 1865. William married in 1868, had at least three children, and eventually
moved to Davidson County and began farming again. He passed away on December 12, 1884 in Nashville and is buried at Rest
Haven Cemetery in Franklin, TN.
