His family farm was south of Fairview near what is now the intersection of Union Valley Road and Pinewood Road. The Bradfords in the company lived nearby. He was married and had two children before enlisting in the Confederate army. Based on the timing of his enlistment he was probably conscripted into the company. Jacob deserted in September or early October 1863. He turned himself into the Federal garrison in Williamson County, TN on October 14, 1863 and took oath of Allegiance to get through Union lines. It is believed he died in Graves County, KY.
