DOB:  March 4, 1826 DOD:  August 11, 1922 Age at Enlistment: 35 Date of Enlistment:  July 18, 1861 Place of Enlistment:  Haynesville, TN Rank at Enlistment:  Private Rank at Discharge:  Private Casualty:  None Comments:  John was born in Yancey County, North Carolina.  He enlisted in Company D while the unit was stopped to join up with the 7th and 14th Tennessee Infantry Regiments in East Tennessee.  It appears that John and his brother Levi left North Carolina to enlist in Tennessee.  He transferred to the 5th North Carolina Cavalry Company A on November 1, 1862 where he was eventually promoted to 4th Corporal.  After the war he married Mary Polly Briggs and had two children.  He died in Bakersville, North Carolina in 1922 and buried in Bailey Memorial Cemetery in Mitchell County, NC.
